The European Commission report on progress of reforms in Albania gave a positive note to the Government of Albania and recommended to the European Council to assign Albania the status of Candidate for Membership country.
“In the light of this report, and on the understanding that Albania builds on the encouraging progress made so far, the Council looks forward to a decision regarding granting candidate status to Albania in June 2014, subject to endorsement by the European Council,” the report noted.
The Commission, the executive arm of the European Union, gave the same recommendation last December but the Council turned it down.
